#CELLINI’S MEDUSA - Benvenuto Cellini unveiled his masterpiece in 1554 in the “Loggia de Lanzi” in Florence, where it still stands today. We call this statuary group the “Perseus but we could call it “Medusa” as well. First, because Medusa is an essential part of the myth; second, because Medusa is sculpted with such loving care and great mastery. In the group, Medusa is a figure which, although less prominent than Perseus, is no less important.
